Meet Claire Johnson. Claire was an apprentice and is proud of it. She started her career in 1991 as a Technician Apprentice, then a Manufacturing Engineer, before working her way up to Head of Product Quality.

"I'm proud that I began my career as an apprentice because I have practical and academic knowledge. Siemens helped me acquire Professional qualifications and I am now a Chartered Engineer".

"I started my apprenticeship in 1988 and after more than a decade in Project Management and various other management roles within Siemens I am now back where I started from, leading the new unit small gas turbines business in Lincoln. I am proud that I started off as an apprentice as in the last 29 years I have had plenty of opportunity to learn, grow my skills, travel the world and develop an international network".

Meet Porsha Young, a proud #apprentice - 2nd year Mechanical Apprentice, Small Gas Turbines

I’ve always liked making stuff and I soon realised I was keen on engineering. I’m proud to be an apprentice here, at Siemens Lincoln, as I learn how to make gas turbines of such a scale (4-5 times bigger than me!) that provide power to the world.

Meet Steve Scrimshaw. Steve is currently UK Country Lead for two divisions, Power Generation Services and Power and Gas and began his career as an apprentice with CA Parsons and subsequently Northern Engineering Industries, which was later acquired by Siemens in 1997. He worked at Mitsui Babcock before joining Siemens in 1998. Having been involved in a wide spectrum of engineering, project management, sales and general management roles, he became managing director of Siemens Rail Systems in May 2007 and in January 2017, Steve moved back into the energy industry as UK Country Lead for the Siemens Power and Gas division and Power Generation Services. This role has seen Steve move back to the North East to take on the challenge of leading more than 2500 employees across the UK.

"I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted from a career, other than something related to engineering. In those early years during my apprenticeship, I gained invaluable hands-on experience of both working in a big organisation and supporting different customers. It was that experience that inspired me to progress into a leadership position".
